The Only Reason the World Could Actually End Today

December 21, 2012 § Leave a comment

I’ve heard it said, about the various predictions of final judgment or some end of the world prophesy, that a date any human has chosen will most certainly NOT be the date based on Matthew 24:36, that “No one knows about that day or hour…” Any doomsday prediction is doomed to failure because we can’t be right about it.

I don’t think that’s really true. If God has chosen December 21st to do a certain thing, He certainly won’t change His plan because we predicted it. And He certainly wouldn’t have planned it for December 21 because some of His creation thought that would be an appropriate day.

There is a difference between belief and knowledge. We can believe God will perform a certain act today, but that doesn’t mean we KNOW He will. We aren’t given that knowledge. It is as likely to be today as any other. If the Lord returned according to someone’s “prediction”, it would be a lucky guess. Our job isn’t prediction, it’s being ready. We can’t know the future but we can know Who holds it.
